Singaporean startup ShowNearby is TiE50 finalist

Singapore, April  19, 2010 – Technology startup ShowNearby Pte Ltd has been selected among 1619 candidates from around the world to be a 2011 TiE50 finalist.

The three year old company is one of 34 “mobile/wireless” finalists in the global premier annual awards programme.

Incepted in 1992 in Silicon Valley, The Indus Entrepreneurs or TiE is a global, not-for-profit network of entrepreneurs and professionals dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship.

TiE provides a platform for mentoring, networking & education, to entrepreneurs with over 14,000 members in 54 chapters across 13 countries.

The TiE50 Awards Program is recognising the top technology startups across various sectors this year. The categories are Internet (including Social Networking), Energy (including Cleantech), Wireless/Mobile, Software (including Cloud Computing), and Life Sciences.

ShowNearby founder and CEO Douglas Gan is elated by the selection.

“It is an honour to be chosen from over a thousand companies around the world. This is a testament to the support our users and business partners have given us in the past couple of years,” says Mr Gan, who was recently awarded Young Professional of the Year by the Singapore Computer Society.

ShowNearby is one of two Singaporean companies among the “mobile/wireless” finalists, the other being Tagit.

“To be a finalist is also a proud achievement for a startup in a small country like Singapore. It shows how vibrant and promising our IT sector always is,” says Mr Gan.

ShowNearby’s flagship product, the ShowNearby mobile application, is Singapore’s most popular and most downloaded locally-developed mobile application, reaching out to over 125,000 users daily.
